KNIVES were thrown at health service staff as they tried to protect vulnerable residents at a West Belfast care home earlier this week.
A gang of young people who are thought to be from nearby Moyard and Springfield Park, broke into Owenvale Court Fold and stole a number of items from the kitchen.
As staff tried to stop them going any further, they were threatened with butcher knives.
Doctors and ambulances were called as residents collapsed with fear during and after the ordeal.
According to the residents, they are frequently tortured as their bedroom windows are constantly banged and pulled at by young people from the area. But this time was the most frightening and the old people are living in fear.
The perpetrators have been caught on CCTV and the local Community Safety Team is examining the footage. They are asking for help from Upper Springfield residents to identify those on camera.
It is not known if the incident has been reported to the police, as a flyer circulating the area does not indicate so.
The troubled facility has had a number of different owners within a few years.
In 2012, the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust closed it during an investigation into the fire death of an elderly woman.
An ensuite room at Owenvale Court with personal care fees are in the region of £450 per week and caters for people in old age and those with physical disabilities.
