I was prompted to write this piece after the death of Robin Williams. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing; sad, but not surprised. He was not on his own battling this particular mental health problem. Many people in the public eye are known to have suffered from it, including Stephen Fry,(1) Owen Wilson (2) and Winston Churchill. Churchill described it as his “black dog”. (3) Depression does not discriminate – it can affect anyone; young or old, from any walk of life.
